Moldovan-Swedish Cooperation to the Attention of the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, March 18, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met today with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Chisinau, Ingrid Tersman.

The meeting’s agenda comprised subjects related to the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Sweden in different fields, including the defense and security sector.

Viorel Cibotaru stressed that our country’s defense and security sector needs ample reformation, a goal to be achieved in the near future. The Minister of Defense stated that the institution counts on the European countries’ support, including Sweden, for reaching this goal.

In the Minister’s opinion, Sweden is an example for the Republic of Moldova, as a non allied country that participates with troops in international peacekeeping missions and a state with a modern and efficient defense system.

Ingrid Tersman stated that Sweden is ready to assist our country’s defense and security sector, along with other fields that need to be adjusted to European standards.

Since 2004, the Moldovan-Swedish military cooperation comprises the training of National Army servicemembers within the training courses conducted by the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre — SWEDINT. So far, about 20 National Army representatives attended such courses in Sweden.
