Ambassadors Appointed to Chisinau Meet with Minister of Defense

CHISINAU, March 19, 2015 — The working agenda of the new leadership of the Ministry of Defense, and security and defense sector priorities were the issues discussed by Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, and the European and OSCE officials, today, at the institution’s HQ.

The Minister of Defense discussed with the Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Moldova, Artur Michalski, and the Polish military attaché, Col. Jan Myszczynski, about the bilateral military cooperation started in 1998, and the identification of new sectors that would support the National Army reformation initiatives.

Also today, Viorel Cibotaru and Ambassador of Italy to Chisinau, Enrico Nunziata, discussed topics of joint interest, with a stress on the participation of the two countries in international peacekeeping missions. The Minister of Defense thanked the Italian Government for the logistics assistance to the Moldovan contingent deployed to KFOR Mission and agreed on continuing the cooperation both in defense, and other public life sectors.

The Minister of Defense also met with Ambassador Michael Scanlan, Head of the OSCE mission to the Republic of Moldova. The officials discussed about the current stage of the cooperation between the two institutions, including the implementation process of joint projects carried out in the National Army.

Viorel Cibotaru appreciated the support offered by OSCE in training servicemembers on ammunition and weapon stockpile management and how to destroy obsolete ammunition from National Army depots; qualifying the retired military staff from the Republic of Moldova, project launched in September, 2010; and the organization of the public awareness campaign on the danger of unexploded remnants of war in the Republic of Moldova.

The Ambassadors agreed on promoting the cooperation with the National Army and identifying new projects that would consolidate the defense and security sector of our country.
