British Officials Visit Ministry of DefenseChisinau, April 2, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met today with Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Moldova, Philip David Batson, and the British defense attaché to Republic of Moldova, based in Kiev, Navy Cpt. Karen McTear. The officials discussed about the regional security, the military bilateral cooperation and the prospects of extending the Moldovan — British partnership. The discussions also focused on the participation of Republic of Moldova in international missions, including KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. Viorel Cibotaru mentioned that the assistance and expertise offered by Great Britain in the modernization process of the National Army, including the military reform and other strategic documents designed for the development of the defense institution is very important. The Minister of Defense also appreciated the support of Great Britain in launching on March 9, 2015, the specialized English language course for militaries to be deployed to Kosovo and in training Moldovan officers within the UK Defense Ministry in Czech Republic and Slovakia. Ambassador Batson stated that the United Kingdom will keep supporting the development of the core areas of the National Amy of Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan-British defense cooperation started in 1999. |
