Ministry of Defense Marks Flag Day (video)



 CHISINAU, April 27, 2015 — The Ministry of Defense hosted today the ceremony dedicated to the State Flag Day. The key elements of the ceremony were the sanctification of the State Flag, the Flag raising, and the Honor Guard parade. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, ministers, servicemembers and civil employees of the National Army participated at the event.

Prime Minister Gaburici congratulated the participants mentioning that the State Flag is a symbol of unity, which makes us think alike, inspires patriotism and commitment to defend our Homeland, Republic of Moldova. “Our Flag should unite us even more given the current geopolitical situation. I want our people to be worthy of this symbol, and to bear it with honor and pride”, said Chiril Gaburici.

Minister of Defense Viorel Cibotaru stated, during the ceremony, that on the 25th anniversary since the day the blue, yellow, and red tricolor became the State Flag of Republic of Moldova, the National Army honors the tricolor flag — symbol of national unity, independence and sovereignty of our country. “The tricolor flag was carried with pride by Moldovan troops in peacekeeping missions in Iraq, Liberia, Sudan, Ivory Coast, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and now in Ukraine”, said Viorel Cibotaru.

Also, on April 27, the Presidential Orchestra organizes a parade in Marii Adunari Nationale Square, and the military orchestras perform in parks.

All the military units of the National Army hold official ceremonies on the Flag Day.

The tricolor flag was designated the official Flag of Republic of Moldova on April 27, 1990. On April 23, 2010, the Legislature declared that date the “State Flag Day”.
