Tribute to the Veterans!



CHISINAU, May 9, 2015 — The National Army staff participated in the ceremonies dedicated to the 70th anniversary since the ending of World War II, organized throughout the country.

The servicemembers from Chisinau garrison, together with the leaders of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army Main Staff, laid flowers at the Heroes Cemetery from Botanica sector, at the monuments “Focul vesnic” (Eternal Fire), “Stela Eroilor Moldoveni” (Moldovan Heroes’ Stele), and “Maica indurerata” (Grieving Mother) from Eternitate Memorial Complex, and participated in a commemoration meeting. The event was attended by President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, MPs, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, war veterans, representatives of Embassies and international missions to Republic of Moldova, as well as citizens who paid a tribute to the soldiers lost during World War II.

President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Nicolae Timofti, stated: “Today, we commemorate the victims of the World War II. We bow to those who fought and gave their lives for a better world. The ending of military operations, of bombing, of cannon and automatic weapons shootings allowed Europe and other continents to start rebuilding societies ruled by law, conciliation, and welfare.”

Chiril Gaburici congratulated the veterans who fought for our peace, quietness, and freedom. “We bow our heads before those who died on the battlefields, who sacrificed their life in the name of life. We thank those who, today, are still with us. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, I wish you to live many years, in good health, and to remain on the front, on our common front of Republic of Moldova. Let us fight together in the name of prosperity and the European future of our children and grandchildren! Let us fight together for the Republic of Moldova!”, said the Premier.

In all the garrisons, the National Army soldiers, together with the local public administration, carried out activities dedicated to the 70th anniversary since the ending of World War II. The National Army military orchestras performed in parks throughout the country.

In Cimislia, Hincesti, Ocnita, and Soroca, the leaders of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army Main Staff awarded the commemorative medal “70 years since the victory over fascism in the World War II” to a group of veterans who fought in the armed forces of the former USSR and of the Romanian army during World War II.
