National Army Commander Attends EU and NATO Military Committees Reunion



CHISINAU, May 19, 2015 — Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, participates, within May 18-21, in the EU and NATO Military Committees Reunion, in the format of defense leaders, held in Brussels, Belgium.

According to Interim Chief of the Main Staff Strategic Planning Division, Col. Sergiu Vicol, it is the first time that our country is invited at the EU Military Committee meeting. The agenda comprises subjects regarding the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) of the EU, including the participation of Republic of Moldova in the EU’s military advisory mission in Mali and the Central African Republic (EUMAM).

The source specified that, while in Brussels, Brigadier Gen. Gorgan will also attend the NATO Military Committee meeting in the format of countries participating in the Interoperability Platform, initiative to which Moldova was accepted at the 2014 NATO Summit in Wales. The Chief of Main Staff will also attend the NATO Military Committee meeting in the format of countries participating in the KFOR mission in Kosovo, where the National Army has been deploying contingents of peacekeepers since March, 2014.

The National Army Commander will also meet with the Chief of the Romanian Army General Staff, LTG Nicolae Ciuca, Chief of Armed Forces Main Staff of Ukraine, Gen. Viktor Mujenko, as well as with defense leaders of other participating countries.
