Latvian Military Attaché Appointed to Republic of Moldova



CHISINAU, May 26, 2015 — State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, met today with the new Latvian Defense attaché to Republic of Moldova based in Kiev, LTC Zigmunds Balodis.

LTC Zigmunds Balodis said that he is honored to be assigned as military attaché to our country for the second time. He stated that the experience acquired during the first term will give him the possibility to continue the development of the Moldovan-Latvian dialogue and to start new partnerships in the defense and security sector.

Aurel Fondos congratulated LTC Zigmunds Balodis on his appointment and wished him to successfully achieve all the set goals. State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense appreciated the support offered by the Latvian Government in training National Army servicemembers at the Baltic Defense College in Estonia, as well as within courses for junior command personnel conducted by the Drill Sergeant School at the Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”.

LCT Zigmunds Balodis graduated from the University of Latvia, Military Faculty , and from the “George C. Marshall” European Center for Security Studies in Germany. He worked in the Personnel Departments of the Armed Forces of Latvia.

The Moldovan-Latvian cooperation started in 2006.
