National Army Servicemembers at Multinational Exercises in Ukraine



CHISINAU, July 20, 2015 — A National Army contingent of 38 servicemembers participates in the multinational exercises “Rapid Trident 2015” and “Saber Guardian 2015” within July 19-August 1. For the first time, the exercises are conducted simultaneously at the International peacekeeping center “Iavorov” from Lviv region, Ukraine.

According to the Moldovan contingent Commander, Maj. Tudor Popa, during the exercises, soldiers from 18 countries will test their interoperability in planning and conducting missions specific for peacekeeping operations.

The source specified that National Army officers and NCOs will carry out, together with their colleagues from other armies, actions at command and observation posts, ground and vehicle patrol, artillery fire call, tactical march on vehicles, neutralization of improvised explosive devices, first aid, and security operations.

Maj. Popa mentioned that the Moldovan staff consists of servicemembers from the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion, Artillery Unit, Engineer Battalion, the 3rd “Dacia” Brigade, as well as the Land Force Command.

The multinational exercise “Rapid Trident 2015” brings together 1,860 servicemembers from 18 countries: Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Great Britain, Republic of Moldova, Norway, Poland, Spain, Estonia, Turkey, Sweden, Belgium, the USA, and Ukraine.

“Rapid Trident” is a multinational peacekeeping exercise in the spirit of the Partnership for Peace, in which the National Army has been participating since 2007.
