Moldovan-Romanian Meeting in Bucharest



CHISINAU, August 21, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Bogdan Aurescu, in Bucharest, on Thursday, August 20, as part of his official visit to Romania since his appointment as the head of the Moldovan defense institution.

Anatol Salaru presented to the Romanian official the priorities of the Ministry’s of Defense leadership and the main directions of reformation for the Moldovan defense sector.. Also, the Moldovan Minister thanked Romania for the support offered in different areas, including the military field.

Bogdan Aurescu welcomed the recent constitution of the Government of Republic of Moldova and pointed out the importance of continuing the cooperation between Moldova and Romania in different sectors of mutual interest. “The forming of the new government in Kishinev, based on a pro-European majority, opens the way to speeding up bilateral projects, especially those that are strategically relevant to connecting the Republic of Moldova to Europe. In this respect, it is necessary to enhance dialogue on all levels to further ensure rhythm and consistency in the implementation of the concrete cooperation agenda on a bilateral level”, stated the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Bogdan Aurescu also mentioned the Romanian support offered to Republic of Moldova in its European integration path. The Minister reiterated that Romania will support our country’s cooperation with NATO, including the opening of a NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed about regional security and the Dniester situation.

Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, pays an official visit to Romania, within August 19-21, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart, Mircea Dusa.
