Demining Missions in September


CHISINAU, October 5, 2015 — In September, the National Army EOD engineers identified and neutralized 65 explosive objects in Stefan-Voda, Causeni, Ungheni, and Soroca districts.

According to LTC Serghei Chilivnic, specialist, EOD Division of the National Army, in this period, the largest amount of ammunition — six anti-personnel mines — was discovered by a local citizen while working in his garden in Zaim village, Causeni district.

The source mentioned that the explosives were of German origins, dating back to World War II, and were destroyed by servicemembers from the EOD Battalion under maximum security conditions.

LTC Chilivnic stated that also in September, the EOD engineers were called in to Delacau village, Anenii Noi district. Here, they disposed of a 122 mm projectile and a bomb-launcher bomb of 45 mm caliber, found in the local sand quarry.

This year, the National Army EOD engineers were called in 183 times and destroyed 389 explosives throughout the country.
