Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru Meets with Ambassador of Ukraine, His Excellency Ivan Gnatisin



CHISINAU, October 6, 2015 — Bilateral cooperation and the current geopolitical situation in Transnistria and Ukraine were the main issues discussed at the meeting of Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, and Ambassador of Ukraine, Ivan Gnatisin.

The military attaché of Ukraine to Republic of Moldova, Col. Igor Olefirenco, also attended the meeting.

Anatol Salaru reiterated how important is for Republic of Moldova to cooperate with Ukraine considering the tense situation in the region. Thus, the Minister stressed the necessity to develop the defense and security sector through the implementation of new strategies, in compliance with the Euro-Atlantic standards.

Minister Salaru mentioned that the participation in the multinational peacekeeping exercises such as “Sea Breeze” is fundamental for the consolidation of the relationship between the military institutions of the two countries.

His Excellency Ivan Gnatisin stated that Ukraine is available to cooperate with Republic of Moldova in order to develop and modernize the military institutions.

The officials expressed their confidence in the bilateral defense relationship consolidation, ensuring each other of support in the achievement of all the established goals.

Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation is based on the Cooperation Agreement between the Moldovan Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, signed on February 19, 1993.
