Defense Moldovan-Romanian Cooperation



CHISINAU, October 7, 2015 — The mixed Moldovan-Romanian Committee restarts its activity after a 10-year break. Thus, Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, met with the Romanian delegation, led by Deputy Head of the Department for defense policy and planning (DDPP), Brigadier Gen. Cristian Alexandru Eremia.

The discussions were centered on regional and international security, bilateral cooperation, and the Committee’s agenda regarding the military standardization.

Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, expressed his gratitude for the support offered by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense in the reformation process of the National Army and its adjustment to Euro-Atlantic standards.

Also, Minister Salaru reiterated how important it was for servicemembers to gain experience by studying in Romania and other European countries, mentioning that they are a fundamental resource for the army.

Brigadier Gen. Cristian Alexandru Eremia stated that the number of National Army activities increased, a fact acknowledged by the Romanian delegation. The Deputy Head of DDPP listed the concrete steps that are to be taken for the National Army reformation.

The Mixed Committee, consisting of both, Romanian and Moldovan experts, will analyze and intervene on the legal framework regarding the defense policy of the Ministry.

On September 22, 2015, the “Agreement on technical cooperation in the field of military standardization between the Ministry of National Defense of Romania and the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Moldova” was signed.
