Minister of Defense Pays Official Visit to Georgia



TBILISI, October 26, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, met with Minister of Defense of Georgia, Tinatin Kidasheli, within the Defense and Security Conference in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The main issues discussed were the regional security, the hybrid war, the bilateral military relations, and the cooperation within regional initiatives and international organizations, with a focus on NATO and EU.

Anatol Salaru thanked the Georgian Minister of Defense for her invitation. Minister Salaru stated that this visit is an opportunity to discuss important aspects of the military cooperation between the two states and to establish new goals for strengthening bilateral relations. The Minister of Defense mentioned the major issues faced by the Republic of Moldova: political instability, corruption, and, on regional level, the critical situation in Ukraine.

Also, Minister Salaru said that the main goal of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova is to reform and reorganize the National Army to be interoperable with the armies of NATO member-states, and Georgia is an example for our country considering its cooperation with NATO.

Minister of Defense, Tinatin Kidasheli, noted that the Republic of Moldova and Georgia have mutual goals regarding the European Union integration and it is important for both states to ensure the regional security for their integration process.

The Georgian Minister expressed her interest to strengthen bilateral military relations and the availability to support the Republic of Moldova through trainings offered to Moldovan servicemembers in military centers in Georgia. Also, the National Army soldiers will be able to pay study visits to Georgia in order to familiarize with the reformation process of the Georgian military system.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials agreed to reinforce bilateral relations and achieve the existing mutual goals. Anatol Salaru invited the Georgian Minister of Defense to visit the Republic of Moldova.
