Foreign Military Cooperation Discussed at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, December 17, 2015 — Our partners continue to assign military attachés to the Republic of Moldova and this proves that our country gained the trust of other states and is becoming a security contributor involved in ensuring regional and international peace and security. The statement was made by Minister of Defense, Anatol Salaru, during the meeting with OSCE Mission representatives and military attachés to the Republic of Moldova. The National Army Commanding Officer Corps also attended the event.

Anatol Salaru thanked the military diplomats for solicitude, support, and assistance to the Republic of Moldova in the reformation of the national defense system. “Through joint projects and initiatives we were able to develop and consolidate the National Army military capabilities in key sectors such as military education, training, personnel, technical-material resources, infrastructure, and other fields”, said the Minister of Defense.

Chief of Defense Policy and Planning Directorate, Col. Alexandru Harea, presented the activities conducted in the field of international military cooperation in 2015, mentioning that the military attachés and the countries they represent had an important contribution to the National Army reformation.

The source specified that in 2016 the defense policies of the Ministry of Defense will be focused on the adjustment of the defense legislation and policy documents, which is needed for the ongoing reform of the national defense system, the promotion of active-duty service, and reinforcement of social care measures for service members and their families. Other priorities of the institution will include the modernization of the military education and training framework in compliance with international standards, as well as the promotion of Moldova’s participation in international crises-management missions led by EU, UN, and OSCE.

Col. Dumitru Neacsu, the defense, air and military attaché of Romania to the Republic of Moldova, dean of the Association of defense attachés accredited to our country, appreciated the Ministry’s of Defense support in familiarizing the members of the association with the military actions and the joint participation in activities conducted in 2015.

“The Association of defense attachés accredited to the Republic of Moldova was able to be dynamic and to express in unison its opinions and ideas — important steps for its consolidation and for a strong cooperation with the Ministry of Defense leadership”, said Col. Neacsu.

The Minister of Defense meets every year with the defense attachés in order to strengthen the cooperation with the countries that assign military diplomats to the Republic of Moldova.

Currently, 29 military attachés are accredited to our country and the bilateral cooperation is highlighted in technical-material assistance and consultancy programs, as well as training opportunities for Moldovan officers in military educational institutions abroad.
