Moldovan Peacekeepers in KFOR Mission in Kosovo



CHISINAU, February 9, 2016 — Since the beginning of 2016, the service members from the fourth National Army contingent deployed in KFOR peacekeeping mission to Kosovo carried out missions in a theater of operations.

According to Commander of the Moldovan contingent, LTC Ruslan Cojocaru, during January-February, the peacekeepers conducted joint patrol (by car and on foot) and carried out duty service at checkpoints in the responsibility zone of the Multinational Battle Group — West (MNBG-W) from “Camp Vilaggio Italia” base in Pech village. The infantrymen also participated in missions of guard and defense of major importance facilities, including Decane Monastery.

The source mentioned that the Moldovan service members, together with the Italian contingent, were trained by their colleagues from Portugal on “fire phobia” and crowd control.

LTC Cojocaru added that, subsequently, the KFOR-4 contingent is to carry out patrol and guard duties of important facilities in the responsibility zone.

The KFOR-4 contingent was deployed to Kosovo on December 5, 2015. It consists of 41 service members out of whom an infantry platoon of 33 service members, 7 EOD engineers, and one staff officer.
