National Army Special Forces at “Saber Junction 2016”



CHISINAU, March 31, 2016 — A National Army contingent is training at Grafenwohr and Hohenfels Training Areas in Germany, within the multinational exercise “Saber Junction 2016”.

“Saber Junction 2016” is organized by the U.S. European Command within March 28 — April 24 and is taking place simultaneously in Germany, Romania, and Lithuania.

The exercise brings together about 5,000 soldiers from 18 countries: Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, Great Britain, and the USA.

Commander of the National Army contingent, Maj. Veaceslav Balan, mentioned that the exercise’s aim is to exchange experience between the participating nations’ special forces and to improve their level of interoperability in carrying out missions.

The source specified that the scenario includes training for liaison officers and observers in compliance with international standards, training at the simulator of a rolled over vehicle, advanced shooting drills with infantry weapons inside shoot houses.

The National Army deployed 24 soldiers from Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” to “Saber Junction 2016”.
