Practical Missions at “Saber Junction 2016”



CHISINAU, April 19, 2016 — The practical stage of the multinational exercise “Saber Junction 2016” started at the Training Center from Hohenfels, Germany.

According to Commander of the National Army contingent, Maj. Veaceslav Balan, during this stage, the soldiers of Special Forces Battalion “Fulger”, together with troops from the USA, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Albania, carry out missions of special research, shaping, and entering of conventional forces into the theater of operations.

“Saber Junction 2016” is organized by the U.S. European Command within March 28 — April 24 and is taking place simultaneously in Germany, Romania and Lithuania.

The exercise brings together about 5,000 soldiers from 18 countries: Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, Great Britain, and the USA.

The exercise’s aim is to exchange experience between the participating nations and to improve their level of interoperability in carrying out missions.

The scenario includes training for liaison officers and observers in compliance with international standards, training at the simulator of a rolled over vehicle, advanced shooting drills with infantry weapons inside shoot houses.

The National Army deployed 24 soldiers from Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” to “Saber Junction 2016”.
