Defense Sector: Moldovan-Ukrainian Meeting in Kiev

Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met with his Ukrainian counterpart Stepan Poltorak on Friday, April 22.

Moldovan-Ukrainian bilateral defense cooperation, the situation in the Transnistrian region and the security issues faced by Eastern Europe were the main subjects discussed during the meeting.

Anatol Salaru thanked Ukraine for the cooperation within multinational exercises and reiterated that he hoped the soldiers of both armies will continue the joint participation in international missions.

Also, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Moldova mentioned that the National Army undergoes a reformation process and Ukraine’s experience in the defense sector would be highly appreciated. “The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine face the hybrid war issue, both have the same goals and the same values. Thus, it is necessary for us to reinforce the bilateral defense cooperation”, said Anatol Salaru.

Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak underlined that Ukraine respects Moldova’s integrity and supports the Russian troops’ withdrawal from its territory.

Poltorak also supported the idea of his counterpart to strengthen the defense cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials agreed to establish a Moldovan-Ukrainian Committee tasked with the discussion of common problems faced by the armies of the two countries.
