Demining Missions in June


CHISINAU, July 1, 2016 — In June, the National Army engineers disposed of 244 explosive objects in different districts of the country.

According to LTC Serghei Chilivnic, Head of Engineer Service, Land Force Command, in this period, the military engineers were called in the villages of Cantemir, Stefan Voda, Soroca, Falesti and Calarasi districts.

The source specified that, recently, a man from Solcani village, Soroca district, found an ammunition arsenal in his garden. The research conducted by the engineers of “Moldova” Brigade revealed 233 bullets of 7.62 mm calibre, dating back to World War II. All the ammunition was destroyed.

Also in June, the service members of “Codru” Engineer Battalion went to Hirova village, Calarasi district and Antonesti village, Stefan Voda district, where they neutralized an F-1 hand grenade and, respectively, an artillery projectile of caliber 152 mm. Both objects dated back to World War II and were discovered by local citizens during agricultural works.

Since the beginning of this year, the National Army engineers were called in 101 times throughout the country and destroyed 429 explosive objects.
