Moldovan-American Meeting at NATO Summit

Warsaw, July 9, 2016 — Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Dr. Michael Carpenter.

The National Army reformation, peacekeeping missions, the regional situation, and the priorities of the bilateral Moldovan-American cooperation were the main issues discussed.

Anatol Salaru reiterated that the USA is a crucial strategic partner for the Republic of Moldova. The Minister of Defense expressed his gratitude for the support offered by the USA for the National Army reformation through trainings, equipment, and expertise.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense highlighted how important is to consolidate and continue the Moldovan-American partnership. The official mentioned that the USA will keep supporting the defense reforms, all the initiatives, as well as the bilateral programs.

Dr. Carpenter appreciated the contribution of National Army service members to KFOR mission in Kosovo and said that the Moldovan participation is appreciated on international level.

At the end of the meeting, the officials discussed about an eventual visit of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense to the Republic of Moldova.
