National Army Soldiers at “Sea Breeze 2016”


CHISINAU, July 15, 2016 — A National Army contingent will participate in the multinational exercise “Sea Breeze 2016” held at Shirokiy Lan Training Center from Mykolaiv region, Ukraine, within July 18-31, 2016.

According to Commander of Land Force Command, Col. Mihail Buclis, the Moldovan contingent consists of 40 service members from “Stefan cel Mare” Brigade, the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion, and the General Staff.

Col. Buclis mentioned that, this year, the National Army will participate in the exercise with seven HMMWVs that will leave for Ukraine on July 15, following the route Chisinau— Tudora — Starokozache — Shirokiy Lan.

According to the scenario, the Moldovan soldiers will be involved in the exercise’s land stage at Shirokiy Lan Training Center, as well as in the amphibian operations held on Tendra island in Black Sea and the seaport and airport from Izmail city.

The source specified that, at the same time, four Moldovan officers will be stationed at the exercise’s General Staff HQ from Odessa city.

“Sea Breeze” is co-hosted by the United States of America andUkraine, and aims to train the naval and land forces of the two countries, as well as the troops from partner states, in order to increase interoperability and consolidate the Black Sea regional security.

This year, the exercise brings together over 4,000 soldiers from Bulgaria, Georgia, United Kingdom of Great Britain, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, the USA, Sweden, and Turkey.

The National Army has been participating in “Sea Breeze” since 2007.
