Moldovan-British Military Cooperation Discussed at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, November 1, 2016 —Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met today with the new Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Chisinau, Lucy Joyce. The meeting was also attended by military attaché of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Moldova based in Bucharest, LTC Tim Bakewell.

The officials talked about the geopolitical situation, the result of the presidential election in the Republic of Moldova, and the bilateral military cooperation.

Anatol Salaru informed Lucy Joyce about the main activities conducted by the Ministry of Defense in terms of the security and defense sector reform, with a focus on the development and approval of strategic documents within the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).

Minister Salaru thanked the British Government for the assistance offered to the National Army within the reform projects, including the English language courses for Moldovan officers and NCOs who participate in the peacekeeping operation KFOR in Kosovo, as well as other categories of service members.

Anatol Salaru also appreciated the performance of the service members from the Irish Royal Regiment at the military parade on the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova.

Ambassador Lucy Joyce mentioned that the UK will continue to support our country’s defense sector reform and expressed the conviction that the bilateral military cooperation will be consolidated.
