The Russian Military Attaché’s Activity Discussed at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, November 11, 2016 — The Head of the Defense Policy and Planning General Directorate (DPPGD), Col. Alexandru Harea, met today with the air and military attaché of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Col. Igor Dovbnea, at the Ministry of Defense HQ.

The Head of the GDPPD expressed the concern of the Ministry of Defense’s leadership regarding the ignorance of the Russian military official towards the requests and discontent expressed during previous meetings — the illegal organization of joint exercises and trainings of the so-called Transnistrian special forces and the units of the Task Force Group of Russian Troops (TFGRT) in the Eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova.

Col. Harea also reiterated the Ministry of Defense’s request for the Staff members of the military and air attaché of Russian Federation to avoid the participation in activities conducted by the so-called Transnistrian leadership together with the TFGRT.

Col. Harea stated that, under these circumstances, such kind of actions are to the disadvantage of bilateral cooperation of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.

The Head of the GDPPD specified that the Ministry of Defense informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration about this situation and asked the MFAEI to refer to the Embassy of the Russian Federation regarding the ignorant attitude of the Russian military official. If these actions continue, the Ministry of Defense will request the withdrawal of the attaché’s mandate.
