Sixth National Army Contingent Leaves for Kosovo (video)

CHISINAU, November 29, 2016 — President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Nicolae Timofti, attended today the deployment ceremony of the sixth National Army contingent to KFOR mission.

In his speech, the Head of State appreciated how important it is for the Moldovan service members to participate in international peacekeeping operations, thus contributing to establish the security principle through cooperation.

“I am sure that a big part of our political class understands the necessity for the Republic of Moldova to actively support the efforts of the United Nations, the European Union, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to build a stable world security and to continue to support our country’s participation in these efforts, within the limit of our capabilities”, said President Timofti.

During the ceremony, the President handed the State Flag of the Republic of Moldova to the deployed contingent and expressed his conviction that the service members will ensure the implementation of the mission’s mandate in order to maintain peace in Kosovo.

The event was also attended by Minister of Defense of the Republic of Moldova, Anatol Salaru, and Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Enrico Nunziata.
