Tribute to the Soldiers who Died in AfghanistanCHISINAU, February 15, 2017 — National Army service members attended today the events marking the 28th anniversary since the Soviet troops withdrawal from Afghanistan. The events were organized throughout the country. Thus, in Chisinau, Deputy Defense Minister Gheorghe Galbura, the National Army Commanding Officer Corps, together with war veterans and their families, laid flowers at “Feciorilor Patriei — sfanta amintire” Memorial from Riscani district of the capital city. The participants also held a minute of silence in commemoration of those who died on battlefield. The National Army service members from other garrisons also attended ceremonies commemorating the soldiers who died in the Afghan war. Such ceremonies were held in Balti, Cahul, Floresti, Ungheni, as well as Leova, Falesti, Straseni, Glodeni, Nisporeni, Singerei, and Hincesti districts. About 12,500 Moldovan citizens participated in the 1979 — 1989 Afghan War. 301 of them were killed, four were declared missing and 257 were injured.
