National Army Honors the State Flag (video)
CHISINAU, April 27, 2017 — The State Flag Day was celebrated today in all the military garrisons within ceremonies attended by representatives of local central authorities, veterans, and pupils.
At the Ministry of Defense, the State Flag raising ceremony was attended by President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, National Army leadership, service members from General Staff and Ministry of Defense. The key elements of the ceremony were the sanctification of the State Flag, the Flag raising, and the Honor Guard parade.
State Flag raising ceremonies were also organized in all the military units of the National Army from Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, and Ungheni. The conscripts attended educational events and learned about the tricolor’s history.
The Center of Military History and Culture of the Ministry of Defense hosted the exhibition “Standards and Flags in the National History” comprising 37 replicas of historical flags. The majority of the exhibits represent thoroughly reproduced copies, while the originals are kept at museums in Bucharest, Athos, Moscow and other world’s cultural centers.
The Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Moldova is celebrated on April 27. The holiday was established by the Parliament on April 23, 2010. The tricolor flag was designated the official State Flag on April 27, 1990, by the MPs of the first Parliament.
