Ammunition Destroyed by National Army Engineers



CHISINAU, May 10, 2017 — The National Army engineers destroyed 96 explosive objects discovered in the last 72 hours in Criuleni and Orhei districts.

According to LTC Serghei Chilivnic, Head of Engineer Service of the Land Forces Command, on May 9, the engineers of “Codru” Battalion were called in to Cimiseni village, Criuleni district, where the locals found 50 artillery projectiles of 85 mm caliber. The ammunition dated back to World War II and was disposed of by the team of SFC Evghenii Axentii, under maximum security conditions, at the Military training base from Bulboaca.

Another lot of ammunition was discovered on May 7, in Branesti village, Orhei district, during gas systems installation. The 46 artillery projectiles of 76 mm caliber were neutralized by the engineer team of “Codru” Battalion, commanded by Maj. Valentin Stati.

This year, the National Army engineers destroyed 182 explosive objects of various calibers during 49 demining missions. The most affected were Stefan Voda, Causeni, Ungheni, Orhei, and Criuleni districts.
