International Conference “Strategic Security Environment: Challenges and Trends” Organized in Chisinau



CHISINAU, May 18, 2017 — The Center for Strategic Defense and Security Studies (CSDSS) of the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” is organizing the international conference “Strategic Security Environment: Challenges and Trends” within May 17-19, 2017.

At the event’s opening ceremony, Deputy Defense Minister Gheorghe Galbura sated that by organizing this conference, the Ministry of Defense wishes to join the research and higher education institutions from the Republic of Moldova and abroad which are always promoting academic peremptory values, such as: professional competence, harmonization of personal interest with the interests of the community, patriotic and civic education, and alignment with European standards in education, research, and innovation.

“It is important to bring to attention the issue of imminent threats that put in danger the national state security at the level of institutions, of foreign and national policy. The activity is part of the attempt to approach the issue oriented to ensure the security of sectors, state domains, on all levels”, said Gheorghe Galbura.

The conference “Strategic Security Environment: Challenges and Trends” is held at the Center of Military History and Culture of the Ministry of Defense and brings together scientific researchers from Romania, Ukraine, Germany, Hungary, and Republic of Moldova.

According to LTC (r) Igor Sofronescu, pro-rector of the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”, the main subjects discussed during the conference are: strategic interdisciplinary defense and security research in the context of Moldova’s national security, the impact of the Ukrainian crisis on Moldova’s security, the impact of the conflict in eastern Ukraine of European Union’s security, cross-border cooperation between Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania in order to ensure regional security, the role of NATO in maintaining security within the Eastern Partnership, as well as the conflict with Transnistria in the context of the events in Ukraine.
