Military Engineers Neutralize Over 170 Explosive Objects in May



CHISINAU, June 5, 2017 — In May, the National Army engineers disposed of 171 exposive objects discovered in villages from Briceni, Causeni, Criuleni, Falesti, Hincesti, Ocnita, Orhei, and Stefan-Voda districts.

According to Maj. Igor Livitchi, deputy chief of Engineer Service of the Land Forces Command, the largest ammount of ammunition — 50 artillery projectiles, caliber 85 mm — was destroyed by the engineers of “Codru” Battalion in Cimiseni village, Criuleni district.

The source mentioned that other 46 artilery projectiles of 76 mm caliber were found by locals during agricultural works in Branesti village, Orhei district. The explosive objects were neutralized by the engineer team commanded by Maj. Valentin State.

Within the same period, the National Army engineers were called in to Puhaceni village, Anenii Noi district, where a 150 kg bomb-launcher bomb of 320 mm caliber was discovered during excavation works in the local sand quarry.

Last week, the engineer team commanded by SFC Evghenii Axenti went to Purcari village, Stefan Voda, where they neutralized 16 bomb-launcher bombs of 82 and 81 mm calibers.

All the explosive objects dated back to World War II and were destroyed under maximum security conditions.

This year, the National Army engineers were called in 71 times and destroyed 249 explosives throughout the country.
