National Army Commander Meets United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping OperationsCHISINAU, July 9, 2017 — National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie met with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, on July 8, 2017, within the United Nations Chiefs of Defense Conference, held at the end of the current week. The officials’ dialogue was focused on Moldova’s contribution to international peacekeeping efforts and global security. Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie informed Jean-Pierre Lacroix that our country intends to increase participation in UN international peacekeeping operations and missions, in order to maintain the status of a reliable contributor to regional and international security. “We intend to increase the number of service women in UN missions. This goal is set within the action plan on implementing the Resolution 1325 ‘Women, Peace and Security’”, said the National Army Commander. Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie attended the United Nations Chiefs of Defense Conference, held at the end of the current week, at the headquarters of the United Nations, in New York, USA. The event brought together military leaders from over one hundred countries who discussed how to improve performances and effectiveness within UN peacekeeping missions, with a focus on rapid deployment, troops training, and increasing the number of female peacekeepers.
