American Military Officials Decorated with National Army Medal

CHISINAU, September 20, 2017 — National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie met today with Brigadier Gen. Marvin Hunt, Director of Joint Staff, Joint force HQ, North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) and Brigadier Gen. John Byrd, Assistant Adjutant General, NCNG.

The officials discussed about the bilateral military cooperation, the partnership between the National Army and North Carolina National Guard, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

Brigadier Gen. Cutie stated that the National Army is undergoing a vast reformation process and the support offered by the USA in pursuing this strategic objective is of vital importance. “The strategic partnership between our countries offers us the opportunity, through assistance programs, to modernize the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova, to develop strategic documents, to train the service members within bilateral and multinational exercises, and to improve the training conditions”, said the National Army Commander.

Gen. Cutie also thanked for the educational programs offered by the US Government to National Army service members and for the support in training military contingents for international peacekeeping missions.

During the meeting, the National Army Commander decorated the two American military officials with the medal “For Cooperation”. The medal was offered for meritorious contribution to the development of Moldovan-American defense cooperation.

Gen. Marvin Hunt is paying a visit to the Republic of Moldova within September 18-21 in order to participate in the training course “Principles of Leader Development” conducted at the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”, while Gen. John Byrd is part of the American delegation attending the international exercise EUMOLDEX 2017.

The partnership between the Republic of Moldova and North Carolina started on April 22, 1999, by signing the Bilateral Memorandum of Intent aiming to facilitate the cooperation in the economic, cultural, scientific, academic exchanges, defense and civil protection sectors and the coordination of humanitarian efforts of governmental institutions and NGOs.
