Ammunition Neutralized by Military Engineers in Balti

CHISINAU, November 2, 2017 — The engineers from “Moldova” Brigade found recently an arsenal of ammunition dating back to World War II in Balti city.

According to Brigade’s Commander, LTC Serghei Chilivnic, the unit’s demining team was informed on October 31 that a group of workers found a few explosive objects on a building site on Aerodromului str. from Balti.

In the next three days the engineers searched the soil on the building site where they identified 43 artillery projectiles of 76 mm caliber, 40 hand grenades RPG-40, 106 bullets of 12 mm caliber, as well as an artillery projectile warhead.

“The searching works are continuing in the area in order to determine if there are other explosive objects. Eventually, the ammunition will be transported to the Training center of ‘Moldova’ Brigade where they will be destroyed under maximum security conditions”, said LTC Chilivnic.

In 2017, the National Army engineers disposed of 583 explosive objects throughout the country.

NOTE: The Ministry of Defense warns the citizens to notify the local authorities about the areas in which there is or is supposed the existence of ammunition. In case of finding unidentified explosive objects, it is forbidden to touch them with hands or other objects, to kick or move the ammunition found in soil or on surface, to remove the warheads or other components.
