CHISINAU, November 24, 2017 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza talked about the defense cooperation opportunities of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union with Chair of the European Parliament Subcommittee on Security and Defense Anna Elżbieta Fotyga and Deputy Secretary General for Common Security and Defense Policy and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service of the European Council Pedro Serrano, on November 23, 2017.

The officials discussed about the tools offered by the European Union for the development of defense capacities in the sector of crisis response through the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP).

Eugen Sturza mentioned that the CSDP offered the National Army the opportunity to familiarize itself with the EU Policy on Common Security and Defense through the participation of over 50 Moldovan service members in various training courses, seminars and conferences.

The Minister of Defense also highlighted the importance of Moldova’s participation in EU crisis management missions, a commitment undertaken by our country under the EU-RM Association Agreement signed in 2014. According to Minister Sturza, so far, the Republic of Moldova deployed to EU Missions in Mali and the Central African Republic three representatives including a National Army service member, thus contributing to the consolidation of the efforts aiming to ensure peace and stability on European and international level.

At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed on intensifying the defense cooperation.
