CHISINAU, December 15, 2017 — The development of the Moldova-NATO defense cooperation, Moldova’s achievements in implementing the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), especially the strategic framework (National Defense Strategy, Military Strategy), and the Moldovan-American defense cooperation were the issued discussed by State Secretary of Ministry of Defense, Aurel Fondos, Evan Maher, Political Officer within the US Mission to NATO, and Ben Williams, Political-Economical Officer within the US Embassy.
Aurel Fondos appreciated NATO’s contribution to implementing the Individual Partnership Action Plan Republic of Moldova — NATO (IPAP), Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP), Building Integrity Initiative (BII), United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, as well as the provisions of the DCBI.
The State Secretary also mentioned the NATO/PfP Project on disposal of dangerous pesticides and chemicals in the Republic of Moldova that was conducted with the financial support of NATO member and partner states.
Aurel Fondos reiterated the importance of the recent opening of the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau that will direct its activity towards continuing the reform of the defense and security system.
Evan Maher mentioned that he will make every effort in promoting all the projects started by the institution within the Alliance in order to strengthen the defense cooperation.
