Republic of Moldova and Georgia to Strengthen Defense Cooperation



CHISINAU, February 16, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza met today with Ambassador of Georgia in the Republic of Moldova, Merab Antadze.

The officials talked about the regional situation, military bilateral cooperation, and the opportunities for strengthening the Moldovan-Georgian partnership.

Eugen Sturza informed the Ambassador of Georgia about the defense institution’s priorities including the objective to increase the participation in peacekeeping operations, the National Army reformation in the context of implementing the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) and the consolidation of measures for service members’ social protection.

The Minister of Defense stated that Georgia has got the experience in modernizing the defense sector, an experience that could be useful for the army of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, Eugen Sturza expressed his hope that the two armies will strengthen the cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Merab Antadze welcomed the reformation started by the Ministry of Defense and specified that Georgia is ready to offer the assistance that is needed for the modernization of the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova.
