Ammunition Stockpile Management Studied Within a Regional WorkshopCHISINAU, March 19, 2018 — The Ministry of Defense, together with Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), is organizing, for the first time, a Regional Workshop on Ammunition Stockpile Management, within March According to LTC Alexandru Arapan, main specialist of the Logistics Directorate of the General Staff, the activity if organized with the support of the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport and aims to familiarize the participants with the best international practices of ammunition stockpile management which are to be implemented in order to decrease the risk of explosion at ammunition depots. The source mentioned that the workshop is attended by military from the National Army, as well as representatives from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine who are responsible for the management of weapons and ammunition depots. LTC Arapan specified that the workshop’s program includes topics regarding the causes of uncontrolled explosions at depots, the conditions of ammunition storage and transportation, as well as techniques of identifying obsolete ammunition in the countries affected by anti-personnel mines, cluster ammunitions and other explosive remnants of war (ERW). The Regional Workshop on Ammunition Stockpile Management is organized in the framework of the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia regional cooperation programme implemented by GICHD.
