CHISINAU, April 5, 2018 — The service members of “Moldova” Brigade celebrated today the unit’s 26th anniversary that was marked for the first time in Vasile Alecsandri Square from Balti city. The event was attended by representatives of the National Army Commanding Corps, General Staff, local public authorities, veterans, and inhabitants of Balti.

The Minister of Defense awarded a group of service members National Army medals, military ranks, and diplomas, highlighting the infantrymen’s performance and how they are representing the defense institution in the north of the country. “You fulfilled you duty with honor within both military and humanitarian missions, when you helped the civilian population during natural disasters, while destroying explosive objects, and in other situations where your help was needed”, said Eugen Sturza.

The Minister of Defense mentioned that 2018 is the year of improvements for the National Army, the year which starts a vast reform involving courage, effort, and ambition. “I know that you have these qualities and I believe that together we will succeed, because we all wish to have a professional army, an equipped army, an army able to fulfill its missions, consisting of people who see the military career as their calling”, specified Eugen Sturza.

Also today, in Vasile Alecsandri Square, 175 soldiers from “Moldova” Brigade took the military oath. The Minister of Defense congratulated the young soldiers and appreciated how they adjusted to the military environment, learned the main rules, and overcame the challenges of the initial training period.

“Ahead of you, there are 10 months of mandatory military service. I encourage you to study the military discipline, regulations, and everything that is related to combat training and, eventually, to join the corps of professional service members. I encourage you to choose the military career and together we will contribute to the development and modernization of the national defense system — we will build an army that will make our citizens proud”.

The event organized in Vasile Alecsandri Square included the troops march followed by military vehicles, wrestling and weapon handling exercises presented by service members of the Honor Guard Company and Reconnaissance Company of “Moldova” Brigade, and an exhibition of weapons, vehicles, and military equipment.
