Premier Pavel Filip on State Flag Day: In your hands, this flag ceases to be a piece of fabric and comes to life

Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked the citizens to become united and to educate the generations to respect the Tricolor and to be proud of the Republic of Moldova. The statement was made today, during the event organized on the occasion of the State Flag Day at the Ministry of Defense.

The Premier mentioned that the Tricolor mobilizes the society, reminds us of the sacrifices of our predecessors and takes us back to our historical roots, being a symbol of our country’s past, present, and future. Under our flag that is hoisted today on all the State institutions, the Republic of Moldova adopted its most important decisions: voted the Declaration of Independence, established cooperation relationships with over 100 countries, and signed the Association Agreement with EU.

“I am glad to see it when I visit our country, hoisted also on the houses of many citizens. I am moved by the ceremonies during which the military and the police take their oath in front of the flag. I am inspired by the sportspeople who bear the flag at international competitions and I look with melancholy at our citizens living abroad who take the flag with them in an attempt to take with them, in fact, the entire country. In your hands, this flag ceases to be a piece of fabric and comes to life”, said the Premier.

Pavel Filip also underlined that an example of patriotism and dignity is offered by the National Army service members. The Premier said that, in order to have a professional army, the mandatory military service will be eliminated and the Government will continue its efforts of identifying the necessary resources for the improvement of working conditions and for motivating the military. “The flags never fly in vacuum, without an air current. This is symbolic. Because it is the same thing with a country which needs dedicated people, such as you, like air”, added the Premier.

The Tricolor was designated the official State Flag on April 27, 1990 and, since 2010, the Flag Day has been celebrated every year.
