For the First Time in the National Army 18 Drivers Are Certified to Transport Dangerous Goods

CHISINAU, May 4, 2018 — For the first time ever, the National Army trained 18 drivers who are qualified to transport dangerous goods, including ammunition, in compliance with national and international standards.

They have been trained by a group of experts from the Logistics Command of the Ministry of Defense of Germany within a specialized course held in Chisinau.

The 18 service members received their graduation certificates and driving licenses at the Ministry of Defense during an event attended by State Secretary for defense policy and international cooperation, Dumitru Minzarari, Ambassador of Germany in the Republic of Moldova, Julia Monar, and the German instructors.

Dumitru Minzarari congratulated the graduates on obtaining the international driving license for the transportation of dangerous goods and thanked the German partners for training the Moldovan service members within this course. The State Secretary also mentioned that this project contributes to the development of National Army capacities in compliance with international standards and ensures the security of the civilian population.

Ambassador Monar mentioned that this project aims to build the population’s security and the capacities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova and that Germany will continue to support the implementation of programs that have been started in our country and are related to this sector.

According to chief of Logistics Directorate of the General Staff, Col. Iurie Bruma, the course is a first for both the Republic of Moldova and the German partners and lasted three weeks during which the drivers have studied procedures and regulations on how to pack and load dangerous goods, vehicle marking techniques, and the actions to be undertaken in case of accidents.

The source specified that 18 National Army service members took the exam offering the right and qualification to transport dangerous goods not only in our country, but also in all the 50 countries that are members of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR)

The training course is part of a project funded by the German Federal Republic. It also includes the donation of 5 new trucks with a worth of 1.5 million Euros. The vehicles will arrive in the Republic of Moldova by the end of this year.
