National Army Staff Trained on Gender EqualityCHISINAU, July 26, 2018 — The Ministry of Defense, together with UN Women Moldova (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women), started a series of trainings on gender equality for the National Army’s military and civilian staff. The first session was attended by the members of the Gender sector’s coordinating group of the Ministry of Defense, jurists, psychologists, and human recourses specialists and was held at the defense institution’s HQ on July 25. During the training, the military and civilian staff studied general notions about gender equality, the stereotypes related to the role of women in the defense and security sector, the violence based on gender (domestic violence and violence against women), the sector’s national legal framework, and the violence based on gender during armed conflicts. This year, similar activities will be organized in all the National Army garrisons. The series of trainings on gender equality are conducted in compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and UN Women signed in July, 2018.
