KFOR-9 Contingent Participates in a March in the Memory of Afghanistan Veterans Organized in Kosovo



CHISINAU, August 1, 2018 — A group of service members from the National Army contingent deployed to KFOR mission participated in the action “The 22K for 22 a Day Veteran Suicide Awareness March” that was organized by the US Army contingent in Kosovo. The action had the objective to raise awareness regarding suicide cases among veterans affected by posttraumatic stress disorder. Statistics show that, in the USA, every day, 22 American veterans commit suicide.

According to KFOR-9 commander, LTC Veaceslav Balan, the nine Moldovan officers and NCOs, alongside over 100 service members from 31 countries, marched on a distance of 22 kilometers carrying 22 kilograms rucksacks and bearing the national flag. The action was conducted at Bondsteel military base from Kosovo.

The source specified that the participants paid a fee of 15 Euros that were donated to Ranger Lead The Way Fund, Inc. from the USA.

This year, the march was dedicated to the memory of Afghanistan veterans.

The first forced marched “The 22K for 22 a Day Veteran Suicide Awareness March” was organized in June, 2016.
