Higher Insurance Benefits for National Army Service Members

CHISINAU, October 10, 2018 — The way of granting and the amount of the mandatory life and health state insurance for military will be modified. The decision was taken today by the Cabinet of Ministers following the proposal of Minister Eugen Sturza.

The draft Government Decision “On the approval of the Regulation on the conditions determining the method of calculation and payment of the mandatory life and health state insurance for military” establishes the cases of granting, the manner, the conditions, and the amount of compensation in the form of cash compensation offered to the military or family members in case of death, for damages to health and life as a result of fulfilling military service obligations.

According to the project’s authors, the amendments are to adjust the subsequent normative framework in compliance with the new rules of establishing and paying the benefits of the mandatory life and health state insurance for military who conduct military service provided by art.20 of Law no. 162/2005 on the status of the military, regulated by the Law no.148 as of July 14, 2017.

According to the Decision, the benefits will be offered to contract-based military of the Ministry of Defense and Carabineer Troops of the MFA, conscripts, as well as reservists who are called in for assemblies, in case of mobilization or military training.

Once this draft Decision enters into force, the Government Decision No. 214 “On mandatory state insurance of military and citizens undergoing military training” as of April 10, 1996 will be abrogated.
