Military Attaches Corps Reunites in Chisinau

CHISINAU, November 27, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza met today with the military attaches appointed to the Republic of Moldova during a session conducted at the Ministry of Defense.

The event was attended by representatives of the National Army Commanding Corps and chiefs of departments of the Ministry of Defense and included a presentation of the defense institution’s activity during 2018, with a focus on bilateral cooperation and the main achievements on foreign level.

In this regard, Minister Sturza appreciated the personal contribution to the reformation of the national defense system of the 27 military attaches and the assistance of the countries and international organizations that they are representing.

“The joint projects and initiatives implemented both in Chisinau and in other European and American capitals helped us to develop and build the military capabilities of the National Army in areas of major importance, such as military education, staff’s training, improvement of technical-material resources, and renovation of infrastructure. It is certain that there is still a lot to be done in this regard and that is why we continue to rely on your expertise,” said Eugen Sturza.

The military diplomats have been informed about the main actions of the Ministry of Defense during the past year, among which the “Professional Army” Program, National Defense Strategy, and Military Strategy.

There have also been presented the projects that are to be launched and implemented in the National Army, such as standardizing the logistics and training system, creating the EOD center, building capabilities on managing the ammunition stockpiles. These projects will contribute to the transformation and modernization of the defense institution.

The military attaches’ meeting organized by the Ministry of Defense is an annual event. It aims to familiarize the military attaches corps with the National Army’s current stage of development.

Currently, 27 military attaches are appointed to the Republic of Moldova. Six countries — Romania, the USA, Russian Federation, Poland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ukraine — have military diplomats based in Chisinau, the rest are based in Bucharest, Kiev, and Warsaw.
