High-Level Officials at Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, July 5, 2019 — Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu met with US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Dereck J. Hogan, and the group of NATO experts responsible for the implementation of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).

The talks focused on the current stage of the implementation of the assistance package DCBI and on establishing the priorities related to the planning process and agenda for the near future.

On this occasion, Pavel Voicu appreciated the support offered by the NATO experts and the US Government for the implementation of the initiative’s first phase that ended with the development and approval of documents on defense planning.

The Minister of Defense specified that the Republic of Moldova relies on its partners’ assistance during the DCBI second phase which provides for assistance, including the establishment of trust funds for the Republic of Moldova, thus significantly contributing to the national defense system building.

Pavel Voicu mentioned that the defense institution will continue to cooperate with NATO, EU, UN, OSCE, and the partner states in order to ensure the enhancement of National Army’s defense capacities, as this is the strategic objective of the Ministry of Defense.

The group of NATO experts is paying a visit to the Ministry of Defense within July 1-5, 2019, in order to assist the Transformation Directorate with the development of the Plan on National Army’s long-term building and development.

The activity is conducted in the framework of the implementation of the defense institution’s transformation reform which is included in the strategic documents.

The Republic of Moldova was accepted by the North Atlantic Alliance as part of the DCBI in June, 2015 and the Ministry of Defense was assigned the responsibility for its implementation.
