The New National Army Commander Presented to the Commanding Corps



CHISINAU, July 8, 2019 — The ceremony of investiture of the new National Army Commander was held today at the Ministry of Defense. The event was attended by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Igor Dodon.

The President of the country congratulated Gen. Gorgan on his appointment and expressed his conviction that the leadership of the General Staff and of the Ministry of Defense will cooperate efficiently.

Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu mentioned that the defense institution’s reformation can only be achieved through commitment, professionalism and the joint effort of the entire military and civilian staff. Minister Voicu added that Gen. Gorgan has the necessary knowledge and experience to guide his subordinates in achieving this strategic objective and, by appointing him as commander, the National Army will be able to fulfill its mission.

Gen. Gorgan stated that it is an honor for him to be appointed as National Army Commander and that he will contribute with responsibility to the building of the country’s defense capabilities.

Brig. Gen. Igor Gorgan has held the position of National Army Commander during 2013-2016 as well. He studied at the Combined Arms Higher Military School from Novosibirsk, Russian Federation and graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College from Kansas, USA.
