National Army Soldiers Participate in Exercise “Platinum Lion 2019”

CHISINAU, July 16, 2019 — A National Army contingent is participating in the multinational exercise “Platinum Lion 2019” that takes place at Novo Selo Training Base from Bulgaria, within July 8-19, 2019.

According to the Moldovan contingent’s commander, Maj. Igor Levitchi, this year, the National Army has deployed 50 officers and sergeants to the exercise. They will train together with military from Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Serbia, and the United States of America.

Maj. Levitchi mentioned that this is a battalion level exercise and has the objective to train the participants for peacekeeping and counterinsurgency missions, to increase partner troops’ interoperability, and to strengthen relations within a joint training environment.

The National Army has been participating in this exercise since 2016. The activity is part of the Foreign Activity Plan of the Ministry of Defense and National Army for 2019.

The participation of the Republic of Moldova in international exercises is an important element of the National Army’s training system that contributes to maintaining the soldiers’ high-level of professional training and subunits’ combat readiness, while, at the same time, ensuring the staff’s training for participation in peacekeeping missions in the security zone in the Transnistrian region, Kosovo operation, UN-, EU-, and OSCE-led missions.
