Minister of Defense Visits the Moldovan Soldiers Who Participate in “Agile Hunter 2019” in the USA

CHISINAU, July 18, 2019 — Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu paid a working visit to the United States of America during July 15-18, 2019. The official was accompanied by US Ambassador in the Republic of Moldova, Dereck J. Hogan.

While in the USA, Minister Voicu attended the Distinguished Visitors’ Day organized within the “Agile Hunter 2019” exercise, to which over 100 National Army service members are deployed.

Pavel Voicu, together with American military and civilian officials, observed how the participating contingents carried out the missions included in the exercise’s scenario.

The Minister of Defense appreciated the performance of the Moldovan officers and NCOs and mentioned the importance of their training in the framework of the defense institution’s professionalization and the National Army’s capabilities building.

During the meetings with Commander of National Training Center and Fort Irwin, Gen. Jeff Broadwater, and Commander of the “Blackhorse Regiment”, Fort Irwin, Col. Scott C. Woodward, Pavel Voicu specified that the Republic of Moldova has committed itself to contributing to global security and this objective can be achieved only by having professional soldiers who are trained in an international environment.

The Minister of Defense thanked the American officials for the training opportunities for the Moldovan soldiers within “Agile Hunter” and within other joint activities aiming at modernizing the National Army.

The exercise “Agile Hunter 2019” is taking place at Fort Irwin National Training Center in California, during June 28 — July 19, 2019.

The exercise’s objective is to increase the level of interoperability between the subunits of the National Army and North Carolina National Guard, to build defense capacities, and to train the Moldovan soldiers for peacekeeping missions.

The participation of the Moldovan service members in the training in the USA is included in the Plan of foreign activity of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army for 2019.

“Agile Hunter” is organized through the Partnership Program with North Carolina National Guard and is conducted for the fourth year in a row. The first two editions took place in the Republic of Moldova, while, last year, it was organized at Fort Bliss, Texas, during August 10-28.
