Ministry of Defense Signs Cooperation Agreement with “Gender-Center”

CHISINAU, July 26, 2019 — The Ministry of Defense signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Public Association “Gender-Center” from the Republic of Moldova on July 25, 2019.

The document was signed by State Secretary Vladimir Iliev and President of the Association Valentina Bodrug-Lungu during a ceremony organized at the Ministry of Defense. It provides for starting and developing new joint projects, such as: organization of trainings and consultations for the Ministry of Defense’s gender equality coordination group and organization of public diplomacy activities.

“Gender-Center” will also support the implementation of the Action plan on the implementation of the Strategy for ensuring equality between women and men in the Republic of Moldova for 2017-2021 and the Action plan on the implementation of the National program for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for 2018-2021.

According to State Secretary Iliev, the Agreement allows for the expansion of the cooperation area between the two institutions. In the last years, this cooperation has significantly contributed to strengthening and developing the Ministry of Defense’s institutional capacities in the area of ensuring and promoting Human Rights, in general, and implementing gender equality and equity principles and implementing the Agenda “Women, Peace and Security”, in particular.

The signing of the Cooperation Agreement derives from the objectives and actions set out in the Strategy for ensuring equality between women and men in the Republic of Moldova for 2017-2021, the Civil Society Development Strategy for 2018-2020, and the National program for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for 2018-2021.
