Moldovan-Ukrainian Dialogue at Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, August 5, 2019 — Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu met today with chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova, Volodimir Boeciko.

The officials reviewed the main aspects of the bilateral defense cooperation, with a focus on the joint training of the two armies’ soldiers and the exchange of experience in the areas of law, medicine, and psychology between Moldovan and Ukrainian specialists.

The officials also addressed the regional situation, the National Army’s reformation and the actions undertaken in this regard, the Moldovan defense institution’s cooperation with foreign partners and international organizations within different programs, projects, and initiatives, and the prospects for boosting the Moldovan-Ukrainian partnership.

Pavel Voicu thanked Ukraine for the opportunity offered to Moldovan contingents to participate in the exercises “Sea Breeze” and “Rapid Trident” and to train with their colleagues from other armies. Minister Voicu added that such trainings increase the level of interoperability and reinforce the exchange of experience between participating troops.

At the end of the meeting, the Moldovan Minister of Defense and the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine agreed on consolidating the bilateral military cooperation, including through contribution to the modernization and development of the two defense institutions and by continuing participation of Moldovan and Ukrainian service members in joint exercises in other countries, such as Romania or Bulgaria.

The Moldovan-Ukrainian military cooperation started in 1993, when the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was signed in Chisinau.
