Minister of Defense, in dialogue with the new British ambassador to Chisinau



CHISINAU, September 13, 2019 - Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu had a meeting today with the new ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Moldova, Steve Fisher.

The Minister of Defense congratulated the diplomat on the occasion of his appointment, expressing his conviction that Steve Fisher will contribute to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of defense.

During the dialogue, the two officials stressed the importance of the Moldovan-British partnership in the context of the reform of the defense sector of the Republic of Moldova.

Pavel Voicu thanked the British side for their involvement in carrying out joint projects in the field of language training, vocational training and the elaboration of strategic documents.

The Minister of Defense referred, in this regard, to the conduct of the English language course for the military participating in the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, the study opportunities for Moldovan officers and non-commissioned officers in the profile institutions in Great Britain, as well as the expertise offered in the elaboration of the National Defense Strategy and the Military Strategy, in the context of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).

Pavel Voicu also appreciated the support of the British military in preparing the Moldovan student team for the international competition "Cambrian Patrol" and organizing, for the first time, by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova, together with the British Ministry of Defense, the course in Management Defense in the Context of Global Security, which takes place between September 9-20 in Chisinau.

In turn, Ambassador Fisher said that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is open to cooperation with the Republic of Moldova on the military dimension and will continue to provide assistance for the reform of the defense institution in our country.
